Biography of Jason A. Gieger
Jason Gieger was born on Eglin Air Force Base and graduated from Fort Walton Beach High School in 1989. Upon finishing high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and embraced its core values of honor, courage, and commitment when undertaking any difficult task. He served three years of sea duty on board the USS La Salle and USS America, both involving deployments in support of operations in the Persian Gulf. From there, he was stationed at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island where he assumed management duties as the assistant leading petty officer in the security division. After earning an undergraduate degree in criminal justice, he eventually discharged from military service to complete a law degree.
Graduating tenth in his class from law school, Mr. Gieger immediately began employment at the Public Defender's Office in Jacksonville, Florida. Within three years, he conducted 21 criminal jury trials and took hundreds of depositions. He demonstrated the flexibility to practice a different area of law upon taking a position as Assistant General Counsel for the Department of Children and Families. Instead of mounting a defense, he learned how to prosecute civil cases as the State's petitioner against parents who allegedly abused, abandoned, or neglected their children. He continued his legal career upon accepting a position as a program attorney for the Guardian ad Litem's Office. Focusing on child custody matters, he represented the manifest best interest of foster children in dependency court and established the independent living program in Duval County. Following nine years of legal employment for the State of Florida, he entered private practice in 2008 to concentrate on family law, criminal law, and general civil practice.
Mr. Gieger received both a Bachelor of Science and Juris Doctorate from Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. He has also earned both an M.B.A. from the University of North Florida and an M.S. from the University of Florida, with a graduate certificate in Health Care Risk Management. As a community advocate, he has volunteered for such organizations as the Rhode Island Special Olympics, Jacksonville Bar Elderly Gifting Program, Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless, and the Teen Court Program hosted through the State Attorney's Office in Duval County.
Presently, he is a community member of the Institution Review Board at Nemours Children's Clinic to ensure the ethical research and experimental use of drugs and devices on children.
